My brides wedding speech was successful because of the tips and guides I learned from the internet. I was afraid that I won’t be able to make a speech because I have not written anything since college, but I did it thanks to the tips that I will share here.

Before I got hold of the tips, I was feeling very afraid of delivering a sub-par brides wedding speech. I don’t want to embarrass myself in my own wedding, I want to impress and give a good showing of myself.

The tips that I will give you here will assume that you can write high school level essays. This will ensure that your speech will at least be conversational and casual in tone and voice.

The first thing to remember is to write out multiple drafts of your speech. You can either use pen and paper or better yet a good word processor to help you write out your draft. If you have a computer and you don’t want to spend hundreds of dollars buying a word processor, Google Docs is free and quite effective for the task at hand.

Second, when writing down your speech or toast, think about the main theme that you want to impart to the listeners. Do you want your speech to be funny? Do you want your speech to be inspirational. Just think about one theme and stick with it through the end. Don’t stray from the main theme to make your speech cohesive and succinct.

Third, make the tone of your speech conversational and causal. Use short sentences and don’t be afraid to bend the English grammar a bit. The truth is people don’t talk the way they write, but you can write the way you talk.

Fourth, use simple words. Don’t use 100 dollar words from the dictionary that no one will understand. Your audience are of different backgrounds and you want to cater to all of them. So use metaphors and strong imagery in your speech rather than dictionary words.

Most probably, you have a Voice Disorder when the sound that your larynx or voice box produces comes out to be muffled, nasal, intermittent, weak, too loud or any other characteristic not pertaining to normal.


Fluency Disorders

Fluency Disorders are speech problems with regard to the fluency of your speech. There are some cases that you talk too fast, in which people can’t understand you, thus, you have a Fluency Disorder of Cluttering. The most common Fluency Disorder however, is Stuttering, which is a disorder of fluency where your speech is constantly interrupted by blocks, fillers, stoppages, repetitions or sound prolongations.

A highly trained professional, called a SLP or a Speech and Language Pathologist, gives Speech Therapy. Speech and Language Pathologists are informally more popularly known as Speech Therapists. Delivering a persuasive sales speech is not really as difficult as it seems once you have acquired the techniques to motivate your audience to buy.

People are attending an information presentation because they want to know about the product.  You are there to sell your product.

Once you have done this, the next step is to write your speech with all the information necessary and add in examples and stories to highlight certain points that you are trying to emphasize. 

When you are writing a speech for sales, you need to be able to awaken the desire in your audience so that they can see the benefit of owning your product.  By creating the desire and showing the benefit, you will then create the need, hence the sale.

1. A laughing audience is an audience that is relaxed and tuned in to the speaker. So when you are speech selling, insert humorous stories and one-liners into your content. 

2. When you have your audience in your hand tell them 2 or 3 benefits of the product. People want solutions to their problems, and if you can tell them how their problem will be solved, explain the benefits they will get from the info product.

3. Tell them a story about why you wrote the book.

4. Give testimonials of others who have used the product and succeeded.

5. Tell them that it could be a great book for someone else, because they themselves may not want to own it.

6. Always give the audience a great discount.

Whether the occasion is formal or informal, large or small, there are several things you should find out before you commence writing your speech. While you may be keen to get started, before you write your speech you should gather as much information as you can about the situation or environment, the audience and the message you have been asked to deliver.  The more you know before you start the easier the task of writing your speech will be.

How much do I know about the audience and how much do I need to find out?

Try to find out as much as possible to gain a comprehensive profile of the audience.  The more you find out about them in addition to what they have in common the better the connection you can have with them during your presentation.  Find out the size of the audience, the balance of the number of men and women, if there is any significant variance in their range of ages, why are they there, what is it that they have in common, to what socioeconomic grouping do they belong, did they pay to attend and how much.  You want to avoid telling people what they already know so it would also be helpful to gain an understanding of the level of information the audience may already have on the subject upon which you are speaking.  Other supportive facts to ascertain are, will they be seated or standing, will they be taking notes and will there be any alcohol being served.  Be very careful about making assumptions, ask questions and get the information as all of this will provide you with a comprehensive perspective of your audience.

Did you know that accommodating and understanding the situation under which you are speaking will have a bearing on the content and in the delivery of your speech?

You will need to know how long you are expected to speak – be careful not to agree to speak for a period any longer than that with which you are comfortable – good public speaking has no padding or filling as these are major audience turn offs.  Will there be an opportunity for the audience to ask questions and how much time is to be allocated to this?  It is always helpful to have someone introduce you as this fosters the feeling among the audience that they have someone important and/or authoritative to speak to them.  If done right, it can also create a sense of excitement and anticipation whilst someone else has the problem of gaining the attention of the audience.

What day of the week, what time of day and whether there have been speakers or activities before your turn are important influences on what you say and how it is said.  Think about it. Would you prefer to give a speech on a Tuesday morning or on a Friday evening? Why?  If you are required to speak on a Friday evening, what steps would you take to ensure that the people attending will listen to you and not just want to get to their weekend to continue to relax and unwind from their busy week?  Are you being asked to speak indoors or outdoors, in a theatre, board room, restaurant, hall, class room, conference centre, etc?  Will there be a lectern, audio visual equipment, room and equipment for any demonstrations?  As you can hopefully appreciate by now, every aspect highlighted will have an influence on what you say, how you deliver your message and how that message will be received.

What is it that your speech is expected to achieve, what is the message you are to get across?

It is important to know why you have been asked to speak and what is expected of you.  Sometimes the request made of you could be quite specific, then again, the request may be of a general nature.  You may have the role of imparting knowledge and related experiences, to be inspiring, or you may be there to provide some relief from the tension and stress of what the audience has previously experienced.  So, ask those who have asked you, why you have been chosen and what is it they want you to achieve.

Remember, the key elements to speech writing are Familiarisation, Research, Structure, Involving the Audience, Audio Visual Assistance and Written Layout.  To make the task even easier for you, start your writing with a clear defining sentence stating the aim of your speech.
