The latest Rasmussen poll has Bush at 46% and Kerry at 44%. Yes, it's close, and yes, Bush is not over 50%, but the press isn't reporting this, the "pundits" are analyzing it, yet the truth is simply this: Kerry cannot beat Bush. Period.
Since around December or so, throughout the democratic primaries, Bush was bashed relentlessly by Dean (by the way, what's he up to lately, ha ha ha) and later Kerry. The failure to find WMD's and the prolonged situation in Iraq, less than stellar economic growth, the 9/11 commission and now the deadliest month in the war and none of it has helped Kerry. Now, the Bush campaign team is reducing the television ad spending. There's no need for it right now.
Now, the poll has other at 4% and not sure at 6%. The other is probably Nader support, so figure half that goes to Kerry. However, the unsure is mostly angst over the war and economy. As the economy will be humming come October, and if, if, if the Iraqi transition goes remotely well, then most of the unsure will come over to Bush.
Bush simply can't worry about the 46-48% that he'll never get. They basically hate him. A few just dislike him. Nothing the President can do will win a single one of them over. What he needs to do is solidify the remaining 5-6% that are unsure. He can do this by continuing to talk to the American people, level with them if things are a little more challenging than expected, and show resolve against terrorism and the war. He's a leader and people will follow him. Plus, he needs to emphasize the social issues that clearly divide him from Kerry.
So, if Kerry can't beat Bush, who can? The only person right now that can beat Bush is Bush. If he makes a serious mistake, if things blow up in Iraq, if the economy takes a serious nose dive, and if the planets align themselves wrong, then Bush will lose. Of course, Bush's team isn't his daddy's team, thankfully.
So what does this mean for the Kerry campaign. If he can't beat Bush, then expect his surrogates to unleash the wrath of hell. Expect Teddy Kennedy, Hillary Clinton, and other prominent democrats to call attack Bush relentlessly and remorselessly. The campaign will be the ugliest in history. Just wait a while. When Kerry's poll numbers appear stuck, and when Bush's poll numbers get above 50% then the democrats will unleash the hounds.

Sometimes I get so frustrated I want to scream. I see the firm moral leadership President Bush has demonstrated since 9/11. Then I see the completely treasonous attacks by the leadership of the democratic (no, they don't deserve to be capitalized) party and I want to grab the President and shake some sense into him. The liberals don't want to win the war on terror, not if it helps President Bush get re-elected.
Republicans just don't get it. Liberals, and democrats in general, don't want to get along, they want to destroy the president and win at all costs. They don't want to be bi-partisan. To them, bi-partisan means both parties agreeing to liberalism. Liberals will use any tactic at their disposal. They will allow a single judge to thwart the will of the people, they will engage in the politics of personal destruction, they will exploit for political purposes any tragedy, victimize any person for political gain, and are the most hypocritical, duplicitous group of people known to man.
They are ruled by hate. They want to win at all costs. President Bush can clearly see evil in the terrorists that seek to destroy democracy. Why can't he see the evil in the hearts of liberals. They hate him so much, they'd rather see 10 percent unemployment and 1000's of dead soldiers, just to win. They don't even have an agenda or a vision. All they have is pure unadulterated hatred. President Bush just doesn't get it.
Nothing should have been clearer to the Republicans than the 9/11 commission. The Republicans pick Tom Kean, John Lehman, Slate Gorton, all capable and dedicated public servants. The democrats pick Richard Ben-Veniste and Jamie Gorelick, two partisan legal bulldogs. And of all people, Gorelick, as is being reported, was the main force behind the "wall" that blocked the sharing of information when she was number 2 in the Clinton Justice Dept. Lee Hamilton, much to his credit, is doing an admirable job. But he is being used as a tool by the far left.
And Tom Kean defends Gorelick when calls for her to resign from the commission. Would any liberal have defended any Republican? I doubt it. Why would they. They are playing by a totally different set of rules.
The liberals had three goals for the 9/11 commission. One, deflect as much blame from the disastrous Clinton foreign policy, two, point fingers and try to assign blame to the Bush administration, and three, remove the war on terror as a Bush campaign issue. And, I hate to say, they have been wildly successful.
Clinton's miserable failures have been overlooked, and with constant pounding from their partners in the press, the claim that Bush could have stopped the attacks is gaining credence. And most importantly, they have succeeded in making it impossible for President Bush to refer to his handling of the war on terror and his response to 9/11 in the campaign. And President Bush just doesn't get it. He is fighting a two front war, one against the terrorists and jihadists, and another against the leftists in America. He clearly sees the one enemy, and is totally blind to the other.
Bush needed to come out swinging in his press conference. He didn't. He needed to call his enemies on the left what they are. He didn't. He just doesn't get it. When, or if he does, we'll al be better off.

Back from hiatus, where I've been busy with a few things, notably kids. Also, finished the wife's photography website. She is really awesome. And she might even earn a few bucks doing it. Go check it out. photobymitzi.com
